We can’t thank you enough for traveling such a long distance and taking time off to spend with us. We promise that once you arrive in Sayulita, it will be well worth all the vacation days, planning and sacrifice!

We will be staying in Sayulita from Thursday February 14th – Tuesday February 19th, and hope you can join us for the whole week or for a very special weekend.

Flight

Wherever you are flying from, your airport destination will be Puerto Vallarta International Aiport (PVR), Mexico. If you are flying from San Diego we recommend that you fly Volaris from  TIJ–> PVR. PVR is equivalent to a small town airport in the US. Once you arrive, you will through customs, and proceed out to the open arrivals area.

Arrival

You will receive a tourist visa to enter Mexico. Your flight attendants will give you the forms to fill out on the plane, and you will receive a stamp on it after you go through customs. It’s very important that you keep this little piece of paper for the duration of your stay – you will need it to get out of the country! Please don’t let it stray far from your passport. When you get off of the plane in PV, here is what to expect:

1. Pick up your luggage. (There is a place to exchange money here if you need.) We recommend exchanging money here. There are only 3 ATM’s in Sayulita with high fees. The restaurants do not accept credit cards.

2. Go through security check point and customs. Mexico has a push-button system. If you get a green light, you proceed through. If the light is red, they will quickly search your bags.

3. After customs, you will go down a hallway full of people trying to sell you a timeshare, offer you tequila and offering you taxi rides. Feel free to accept a drink but don’t book your taxi with them

4. Proceed to your planned transportation below!

From The Airport

The ride from the airport to Sayulita takes about 40 minutes. Before booking a van in advance, please also check with the place you have rented to stay in Sayulita. Some may offer airport transportation as part of the booking. For the less intrepid traveler, car service is a great and convenient way to get to Sayulita. The driver will meet you at the airport at your arrival time, provide bottled water and beer for the drive, and will stop for up to an hour at a grocery store for you to pick up supplies for your stay in Sayulita. It’s great to be able to take advantage of the large Mexican superstores (ie Mega) near the airport to pick up snacks, alcohol, bottled water other cooking supplies.

– The easiest way to book a car service is through your hotel or condo/villa rental, they are very knowledgeable and helpful. You should expect to pay around $130 USD for the round trip or $25 per person.

– A recommended car service is Jose Ramos Taxi Services or Diva Tours . Once everyone has their travels booked we can try to coordinate those who are coming on the same flights to share shuttles.

Taxis

As soon as you exit customs at the airport there will be booths to get a taxi. They people behind the booths will be yelling at you “taxi, taxi” and yes, that’s where you go! You will pay the full fare for the taxi ride at the booth (prices are listed there), get a receipt and be taken to a driver.

It is 38 km from the PVR airport to Sayulita. You can rent a car, take a cab, or arrange a driver. You may get asked to take shuttle services for up to $120 US to get to Sayulita; it should only cost $40-$60 US to get a taxi to Sayulita. Once in the town of Sayulita, there is very little parking. Most people walk or rent golf carts.

Bus

For the most savvy and adventurous travelers, the bus ride from Puerto Vallarta to Sayulita costs around $35 pesos, and its totally safe. Buses normally arrive every 20 minutes and the 24 mile journey takes approximately 1½ hours due to frequent stops.

*If you plan on catching the bus from the airport, cross over the highway using the pedestrian bridge. The bus line serving Sayulita is COMPOSTELA and their buses are usually white and green. Some newer Compostela buses have Riviera Nayarit logos that are green, red and white. Look for the name “Sayulita” written on the windshield of the bus. Note: Not all COMPOSTELA buses go to Sayulita.

**You can also grab a taxi on this side of the road and it’s a bit cheaper than paying inside the airport due to not having to pay the tax. It’s fair here to negotiate a bit, but you should spend about $50USD to get to Sayulita.

Once we know when everyone is arriving and where they are staying we can help to coordinate transportation if needed.

Golf Carts

Once you arrive in Sayulita, golf carts are available to rent for $50/day and are highly recommended to get around town! We recommend booking golf carts ahead of time as our wedding week occurs during the spring break time when lots of visitors will be in town.

They are easy to park, carry ice & cases of beer, groceries, transportation to and from events around town, etc.

We recommend booking in advance through the below options:

Time Zone:

Sayulita is located in the Central Time Zone.

Passports:

Please make sure those passports are renewed! For flights to and from international destinations, including Mexico, government regulations require the use of a passport for entry into, and exit from the United States for U.S. Citizens as well as foreign visitors. Travel Note

Renting a car for your time on the trip is not necessary and strongly discouraged – driving and parking in Sayulita is tough!
