Sayulita is a small picturesque fishing village surf town, 30 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, in the Riviera Nayarit. The village sits in a small bay surrounded by jungle and palms which offer amazing views and year-round surf. The cobblestone streets of the town are lined with shops, restaurants, and taco vendors. The spirit of old Mexico is alive in Sayulita and the vibe is relaxed and friendly.
Sayulita is very walkable but does have some hills. The walk from the north end to the south end of town is about 20 minutes, with the main square located in the center of town. Taxis are common and easy to catch in the town square, or you can call for a pickup from your house.

Is Sayulita Safe?
Yes, Sayulita is a very safe, family-friendly, small town with about 3,000 residents. There are no traffic lights, and there is only one main road that goes in and out of town. Please rest assured that Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta have not experienced any evidence of violence or dangerous crimes, as seen in border towns. This area remains a popular and safe destination for millions of international tourists each year.
Can I drink the water?
No, even the locals don’t drink it, although it’s fine for bathing. Nearly all hotels and villas will provide bottled water, or you can easily purchase it at nearby convenience stores. Restaurants use purified water and ice, so no worries about drinking a nice cold margarita!
What will the weather be like?
Sayulita has warmer weather in mid February, with sunny days and comfortable nights. Averages for February are high 80’s to mid 70’s, nights cool off so bring a sweater or light jacket just in case. The ocean will be about 80 degrees.
What should I wear?
In general, Sayulita is a very casual town, and you should wear whatever makes you most comfortable. The cobblestone streets are a little uneven so keep this in consideration when choosing footwear.
How do I meet up with someone at the Airport?
Once you clear immigration and customs we suggest you meet in the main arrivals area at the bar (all of this is on the ground floor). It’s a fairly small airport, so it shouldn’t be too hard. It’s likely that your cell phones will not work, so it’s better not to rely on that.
Does Sayulita have ATMs?
There are 3 ATMS in Sayulita. We also recommend exchanging your money in the Puerto Vallarta airport, as it’s easier. Some restaurants and shops will take credit cards as well.
What if I don’t speak Spanish?
No need to worry. Restaurants, hotels, shops, and most locals are English-friendly.
Will I have access to WiFi?
Yes, most accommodations will have it and many restaurants in town provide it. There are also internet cafes.
Are the electrical outlets different?
Electric current and plugs are the same as in U.S and Canada., so your small appliances will work.
How do we get to the wedding?
The entire wedding is held at Don Pedros Brisa Mar Palapa. We recommend walking to The Plaza at town center and taking a taxi. The ride will cost $5.00 USD or less. There are very few parking spots, so please carpool or walk. It is down a little dirt road, near the cemetery, and up a little concrete stairway.
What should be wear to the wedding?
The wedding attire is semi formal. Summer suits and cocktail dress are great. It will be hot during the day, however the palapa provides plenty of shade. It cools off in the night; a shawl or suit jacket is also recommended. The venue is up a stair case, and the ceremony will be held on the grass lawn, so flats shoes or wedge heels are encouraged for your comfort.
Will my phone work in Mexico?
We recommend getting WhatsApp on your smart phone. It is a free app and the easiest way to communicate down there without running up a huge phone bill. Check with your phone provider to make sure you know how to avoid roaming and international fees if you plan on making calls. It can cost $1 per minute for phone calls. Some providers have plans you can buy for around $30 to make sure you’re covered.
The town is pretty small and there’s a good chance you’ll run into us or other wedding guests—and obviously we have quite a few events planned throughout the week for those who will want to join!
Can we purchase groceries in Sayulita?
There are a only a few small shops in Sayulita similar to 7-11 for groceries. There is a Costco in Puerto Vallarta. It may be worth stopping here or another large market so you can purchase food, bottled water, alcohol, suntan lotion, etc. for your house. You DO need a Costco membership card to shop there.
